Natural 4c hair tends to be dryer than other hair types as 4c hair has difficulties locking in moisture. A way to help your hair keep moisture in is by washing it correctly. We made a guide on two of the most popular washing techniques that gives your 4c hair some extra love and care.

A common mistake is thinking 4c hair needs to be washed more often whilst in fact what it needs is just more moisturize. Why? Washing your hair too often strips it of all its nutrients and natural oils.

With this said it’s not at all healthy to wash your hair rarely as well. It’s important to find a balance that works for your hair and scalp. Not washing your hair often enough can cause buildup from your hair products and make the hair dirty which won’t help your hair grow.

The best way to wash 4c hair is by

• Shampoo wash – a full wash with shampoo, conditioner and maybe even a leave in conditioner.

• Co-wash – when you wash your hair with conditioner only.

For natural 4c hair, you should limit its exposure to shampoo to once or two times each month. In between your shampoo washes you can keep your hair clean with conditioner washing, “co-wash”.

Also, make sure to deep condition your hair up to twice per month as 4c hair dries out quicker and retains less moisture than others.

Which products you decide to use is purely up to you and what works for your hair and scalp. A product that works for us might not do the trick for you!

Having 4c hair can be a struggle and it’s real. However remember to love your hair and with the right care it will be just as healthy and beautiful as 4c hair is in its natural state!
